Voices into Action is happy to announce that Zandra Alford has recently joined our team as the Harnett and Lee Outreach Coordinator. For those of you working in Harnett or Lee Counties, she is your contact person for mini-grants and other outreach efforts. Welcome, Zandra!
Zandra studied Public Health at the University of Arizona in Tucson. During her graduate studies she worked with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona (CFBSA) to develop a program evaluation for their community farm project, Las Milpitas de Cottonwood. During her time with the CFBSA, she participated in the inaugural Closing the Hunger Gap Conference focused on addressing local and national food insecurity. Zandra has a strong interest in issues related to migration and health and as a Master’s in Public Health student she co-created and facilitated a service-learning course examining the impact of migration on the health of migrants and communities in Guatemala, Mexico and the United States.
Zandra has worked in public health programming, research implementation, community outreach, and education. As a Community Health Outreach Worker and Educator with the COPE Women’s Center (a behavioral health service provider in Tucson) she delivered services to women in crisis, collaborated on HIV prevention research, and facilitated outreach and educational opportunities within the community. Zandra has served as a domestic violence case manager for Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse and as a Health and Human Services Legislative Intern for the Arizona State House of Representatives. She has also worked with youth as an after-school tutor for the Boys and Girls Club of America, as an elementary school garden intern within the Tucson Unified School District, and as an English Language Instructor for students grades k-12 in France.
Be sure to reach out to Zandra to say hello!
