Spring is coming to an end, which means that spring gardens are beginning to blossom! You are invited to “A Day at the Garden” at the Peace and Unity Community Garden in Sanford on June 22, 2013 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for community members. The event, which will be held at the garden in the Hudson Avenue cul-de-sac near Washington Avenue, is a time to celebrate some of the first vegetables to be harvested this spring and for families to come and enjoy the garden and activities.
The event will include a ribbon-cutting, garden tours, activities for kids, face painting, yoga, a cooking demonstration from the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a demonstration from a master gardener and more. There will also be a raffle with the grand prize of one-month family membership to the YMCA of Lee County.
“A Day at the Garden” is a collaboration between the residents in the Hudson Avenue area, Brick Capital CDC, the Lee County Health Department/LeeCAN, the Lee County YMCA, NC Cooperative Extension, EFNEP, members of the Sanford Farmer’s Market, the Peace and Unity Community Garden, and Voices into Action: The Families, Food and Health Project at NC State University.
